The lampshades are made of black fabric.

The Origins of the Bouillotte Lamp
The Bouillotte lamp takes its name from a popular French card game called Bouillotte that emerged in the eighteenth century.
A popular game based on the French game “Brelan” and played at many upper-class gatherings. Similar to the modern game of poker, chips, or counters were used.

The French Bouillotte lamp stood at the center of all this action. Placed at the center of a round games table, known as a Bouillotte table and designed specifically for the game.
Since those heydays of Bouillotte gaming, the French Bouillotte lamp has become an object of luminary luxury.
