Mixed media painting on cardboard by Russian painter Mihail Chemiakin.

Rare painting belonging to the Carnival at St. Petersburg series.

Done in mixed media with use of India ink wax pastels and watercolors.

The painting depicts precisely St. Petersburg carnival masks drawn in the author's unmistakable style of distorting them to such an extent that they look monstrous.

The painting is signed in India ink and dated 1981 in the lower right corner

Mihail Chemiakin is a Russian painter who later moved to America is a controversial representative of St. Petersburg's nonconformist artistic tradition .

In 1993 he received the State Prize of the Russian Federation.

It is in mint condition with no defects.
