A wonderful Scandinavian Modern lamp base made by Dagny and Finn Hald at their own ceramic workshop in Soon, Norway in the 1950s. The lamp is hand decorated with incised abstract motifs. Signed at the bottom. Finn Hald was a Norwegian ceramist, sculptor, graphic artist, draftsman and writer. He and his wife Dagny Hald were for several decades two of the country’s most renowned ceramicists. Dagny and Finn Hald have, through years of artistic effort and an unwavering belief in what they have been doing, realized the old dream of creating a meeting place for arts and crafts. “with the married couple Hald, this dream has come true. And the secret, besides imagination and flexible sense of form, is, I think, informality,” wrote the art critic Erik Egeland in the 1980s, at the same time stating that their best works will have a long life.
