Large 17th Century Renaissance Carved Buffet, 1638

About This Piece

Vintage Design

Very important Renaissance period chest transformed into a two-door sideboard in the 19th century. Composed of many details carved in wood. This buffet is richly decorated and testifies to the talent of the cabinetmaker. Angels, tracery, medallions, plants, shells etc. can be seen there. The hasp lock is period and is used today as a decoration.
It was common in the 19th century to transform old medieval and Renaissance chests into more common furniture such as sideboards.
Carried the letters "P.KEC" engraved on the facade can an abbreviation of the name of the first owner of the furniture.
