About This Piece

Joseph Gautschi of Austrian origin, born in 1900 in Sierning in Austria, and died in 1977 in Sion, was a painter, glass painter and mosaicist. After studying in Zurich, Munich and Paris, he settled in Valais in the 1930s, following other artists whose fame today is greater than his own, such as Edmond Bille or Albert Chavaz.
He created numerous religious and secular frescoes as well as smaller paintings on canvas.
