About This Piece

Pair of brown patina bronzes based on Voltaire's 18th-century poem "Jean qui rit, Jean qui pleure", evoking the versatility of human beings. This work is based on the work of French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828). This artist, also known as "the sculptor of enlightenment", is renowned for the realism of his work.
This bronze pair depicts two children topped by a crescent moon. One is laughing out loud, while the other is crying out loud.
